Most companies start from a market. Arc started from a dissatisfaction.
The research that mattered most was rarely the research that shipped. The products that shipped fastest were rarely the ones worth protecting. Somewhere between the university lab and the venture pitch, the deep work — the kind that becomes a real option years later — kept getting compressed out.
Holding options instead of chasing signals
Arc exists to hold that work as deep technical options: assets we create, validate, and protect until the right technical and market conditions arrive. Not every option is exercised. The point is to be in a position to exercise the right ones.
A house, not a funnel
A private R&D house is patient where a startup is urgent. It recognises people through real work rather than interviews, and it measures itself by the quality of the options it holds — not the volume of features it ships.
